LADY FALCON HOOPS
Ladies build double-digit lead and hold off Evangel rally to earn first round playoff win.
Amber Donnes collects 23 points and Skylar Ramsey adds 12.

HAMMOND—In classic tale of two halves the Saint Thomas Lady Falcons built and 33-21 halftime advantage and held off an Evangel rally in the second half to secure a 54-51 Bi-District Playoff win Monday night. Sophomore Anna Miller delivered a key assist to junior Amber Donnes with 26 seconds left to put the Lady Falcons up by three after the Lady Eagles cut the margin to just one with 24 seconds left on a free throw by Jalisa Lafitie.
“We had a really good first half and our shots were falling for us, but I thought we panicked a bit in the second half once our outside shots were not dropping and we committed too many turnovers,” said Saint Thomas head coach John White. “The group continues to improve and grow as a unit and tonight was just another good experience that can make us better and help to girls learn to respond in pressure situations.”
Saint Thomas struggled at the charity stripe in the second half and finished just 11-of-23 from the line. “We are normally a much better free throw shooting team, but we were not hitting down the stretch and that helped them stay in it,” said White.
The Lady Falcons used a balanced offensive attack in the first half to build a 33-21 advantage by halftime as Donnes had 14, Ramsey six, Porscha Walker five and Addie Shafer 4. Saint Thomas led by as much as 33-15 with 32 seconds before intermission, but the Lady Eagle got a pair of treys by Kim Sasser and JaKaris Whitaker to cut by six just seconds before halftime.
Saint Thomas opened the third period with a quick 9-2 run extending their lead t0 42-23 with 5:57 still showing in the period, but the Eagles would have an answer as they out-gunned the Lady Falcons 12-3 to cut the margin to ten at 45-35 to start the fourth period.
The Lady Eagles kept chipping away in the final stanza scored eight of her 14 total points down the stretch cutting the lead to just one on a free throw with just 34 seconds left, but the rally would not succeed as Miller found Donnes streaking in the paint and delivered a key assist with 26 seconds that put the Lady Falcons up by three.
Donnes collects 23 points and Ramsey added 12 for the winners, while Rachel Johnson had 16 for Evangel.
Saint Thomas will hit the road for round two playing Pickering who defeated Red River 101-37.

Saint Thomas Hoops celebrates senior night with a trio of wins over rival Northlake.
Falcon seniors DJ Cannon, BJ Miles, David Williams, Modestas Bakauskas, and Steven Wronkoski were honored in ceremonies before the varsity boys’s game.

HAMMOND—The Saint Thomas Falcons Hoops teams tightened their already hard grip on District 8-2A Friday night as the Lady Falcons padded their championship won this past Tuesday with a 59-34 win over the visiting Lady Wolverines, and the Falcons clinched the championship with their 70-41 win over the Northlake Wolverines. The Falcons last lost a league game in February of 2007 when Springfield defeated them. Both the girls and boys teams own a perfect 13-0 district mark with just one game left to play.

Shafer would finish with 11. The Saint Thomas Ladies padded their advantage in the second period out-gunning Northlake 16-7 to take a commanding 37-16 lead at intermission.
The Lady Falcons limited Northlake to just seven points again in the third stanza while scoring 17 to take a 31-point advantage at 54-23 after three periods. The Lady Wolverines won the fourth period 11-5, but the damage was already done as Saint Thomas remained perfect in district play at 13-0.
