Falcon swimmers finish strong.
Three Saint Thomas swimmers post personal best times at LHSAA State Meet.
SULPHUR, LA—Three members of the STA Swim Team competed at the LHSAA Division 4 State Swim Meet on November 18th and 19th. Highlighting the event for the Falcons were Lindsey Dettwiller's 2nd place finish in the 100 back and her 3rd place finish in the 100 free; both All-State honors. Her times in both events were personal bests and lowered her own school records with a 1:03.19 in the 100 back, and 0:57.46 in the 100 free.
Agustin Cayere also swam personal bests in his events, posting at :25.43 in the 50 free for a 5th place finish, and a :58:89 in the 100 free to place 11th.
Ryan Amerson's personal best came in the 50 free as he posted a 0:25.90 for a 11th place finish.
Dettwiller breaks school record at Capital City Swim League Championship Meet.
Lindsey Dettwiller finishes sixth in the 100-Yard Freestyle and named to the All-Academic Metro Swim Team.
BATON ROUGE—Senior Lindsey Dettwiller set a new school record in the 100-Yard Freestyle competing in the Capital City Swim League Championship Meet. She finished
with a time of 00:59.02 and was named to the All-Academic Metro Swim Team.
The Saint Thomas Swim Team participated in the Capital City Swim League Championship Meet at Crawfish Aquatics in Baton Rouge, October 31 and November 1st. Participating in the meet were Seniors Lindsey Dettwiller and Ryan Amerson, Juniors Elizabeth Crossie and Agustin Cayere, and Sophomore Jade Vappie.

HAMMOND—The Saint Thomas Swim Team competed in the Capital City Swim League Meet this past Saturday.
Three Falcon swimmers posted top ten finishes. Lindsey Dettwiller finishes second in the 100-Yard Freestyle (28.32). Ryan Amerson finished seventh in the 100-Yard Freestyle (28:13) and tenth in the 200-Yard Freestyle (30:93), while
Jade Vappie finished 5th in to 100-yard backstroke (41.84) and 10th in the 50-yard freestyle.

HAMMOND—Three Falcon swimmers posted qualifying times for participation in the LHSAA State Meet in last week’s Ponchatoula Invitational. Senior Lindsey Dettwiller qualified in the 100 freestyle and backstroke, while newcomer senior Ryan Amerson qualified in the 50 freestyle. Junior Agustin Cayere qualified in the 100 backstroke.

HAMMOND—The Saint Thomas Swim Team hit the pool this week to open the 2015 season with the boys team finishing third behind winner Ponchatoula and runner-up
Covington High, while the Lady Falcons finished fourth behind Hammond, Covington and Ponchatoula.
Lindsey Dettwiller and Augustin Cayere led the way for Saint Thomas as each won the 200-yard freestyle event Dettwiller in a time of
2:20:30 and Agustin in a time of 2:33:21. Detwiller also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly.

HAMMOND—Six-time State Finalist Lindsey Dettwiller leads the Falcons as they begin a new year chasing “best times, state times, and championships.”
Joining Dettwiller is fellow Captain Colin Dillion, returning swimmers Agustin Cayere, Jade Vappie, Elizabeth Crossie, and newcomer senior Ryan Amerson.
With the move down to Division 4, the Falcons expect to have multiple swimmers competing at the November 18th State Championships!

The Lady Falcons and Falcons Swim Squads combined for 67 points to earn the Overall Tangi Parish Swim Meet Championship.
HAMMOND—The Lady Falcons and Falcons Swim Squads combined for 67 points to earn the Overall Tangi Parish Swim Meet Championship Tuesday hosted at Oak Knoll Country Club. The Lady Falcons collected 48 points to win the Ladies competition, while the Falcon finished second with 19 points. Shannon Garrety, Lindsey Dettwiller, and Matthew Hanford were all double individual winners, while the Lady Falcons scored a pair of relay wins.
Hammond Magnet finished second in the ladies competition with 27 points, while Ponchatoula was third with 16. On the men’s side, Ponchatoula took first with 41 points and Hammond finished third with five.
Garrety won the Ladies 100-yard breaststroke (1:36.39) and the Ladies 100-yard butterfly (1:20.83), while teammate Dettwiller took top honors in the Ladies 50-yard freestyle (28.75) and the Ladies 500-yard freestyle (6:18.59). Hanford took the Men’s 50-yard freestyle (24.21) and the Men’s 100-yard backstroke (59.66).
Dillon Corbin won the Men’s 500-yard freestyle (8:15.10) and placed second in the Men‘s 100-yard breaststroke (1:31.32), while Augustin Cayere took top honors in the Men’s 100-yard freestyle (1:04.67). Lilly Magidson won the Ladies 100-yard freestyle (1:08.92).
The team of Dettwiller, Garrety, Tori Durand, and Kelsey Olivia won the Ladies 200-yard Medley Relay (2:27.53), and the team of Jade Vappie, Dettwiller, Magidson and Garrety, finished first in the Ladies 400-yard Freestyle Relay (4:55.04). Vappie, Magidson, Elizabeth Crossie, and Emma Sale combined to earn second in the Ladies 200-yard Freestyle Relay.
Magidson and Oliva joined first place finisher Dettwiller in a sweep of the Ladies 50-yard freestyle as Magidson took second (30:33) and Oliva third (31.56) in a field of nine.
Cayere was third in the Men’s 50-yard freestyle and Durand was fourth in the Ladies 200-yard freestyle.

HAMMOND—The Saint Thomas Swim Team had a strong showing in the Ponchatoula High Invitational Meet on
Tuesday as the Falcons matched up against Ponchatoula, Hammond High, Walker High, Northlake Christian,
and Archbishop Hannan.
Lindsey Dettwiller posted victories in the 100 Free, and set a new school record in the 100 Fly
with a time of 1:14.06. Matt Hanford posted a victory in the 50 Free, and 2nd in 100 Fly, while Shannon Garrety
had strong swims with a 2nd in the 100 Fly and 5th in the 100 Breast. Kelsey Oliva and Colin Dillon
were solid with two 6th place finishes, and two 7th place finishes respectively. Agustin Cayere built
upon last year's growth with a 7th and 6th place finish, and Elizabeth Crossie posted a 6th and 11th place
finish in her two swims.
Falcon Swim team will hit the pool again on Saturday, September 27th at Crawfish
Aquatics in Baton Rouge.

SULPHUR, LA—The STA Falcon Swim Team brought 4 individual swimmers competing in 6 events, and two boy’s
relay teams to the Division III State Championships held in Sulphur, LA on November 20th and November 21st.
Jacob Wright ended his Saint Thomas Aquinas swim career in fine fashion.
Finishing with a time of 0:59.79 in the 100 fly to win the consolation final and
earn a 9th place finish in the event. This was a personal best time for Jacob and marks the first
time he dropped below the one minute mark in the event. Wright also earned a 13th place finish in the 50 free.
Wright then anchored the relay team, joining Collin Dillon, Stephen Anthon, and Augustine Cayere
to win the consolation final in the 200 free relay and a 9th place finish; this foursome
also joined to place 14th in the 200 medley relay.
Lindsey Dettwiller became the first girl swimmer in Saint Thomas Aquinas history to compete
in the finals of an individual event——competing in two! In the 100 free she finished 8th with a time of 0:59.09,
and in the 100 back she finished 7th with a time of 1:07.08 in the preliminaries. Both times are school records.
Shannon Garrety competed and finished in the points in the 100 fly, finishing
16th in the event. Stephen Anthon also competed in an individual event, finishing 22nd in the 200 IM.

MANDEVILLE—The Saint Thomas Falcon Swim Team participated in the Northlake Regional Championship Meet
on Thursday, October 24th at Pelican Athletic Club. Both the boys and girls teams turned-in 10th place finishes
in the meet that featured SSA, St. Paul’s, Mandeville, Slidell, Fontainebleau, Northlake Christian,
Northshore, Lakeshore, Covington, Salmen, Ponchatoula, Pope John Paul II, Christ Episcopal, and STA.
The team performed well as they raced against the top swimmers in the state.
Highlighting the meet was Lindsey Dettwiller celebrating her return from a knee injury with 2 new school
records. She lowered her school record time in the 200 free by 10 seconds, finishing 5th overall with a
time of 2:10.56, and lowered her time in the 50 free to 28.09, finishing 12th.
Jacob Wright also finished “in the points” with an 8th place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.1.

HAMMOND—Four Falcon Swimmers earned wins the Tangi Championships on Friday. The Meet was a three team meet between STA, Ponchatoula High, and Hammond Magnet.
Lindsey Dettwiller scored victories in the 50 free with a time of 27.88 seconds, and the
100 free with a time of 1:00.85. Shannon Garrety won her two swims with a time of 2:34.17 in the 200 free,
and 1:17.98 in the 100 fly. Matt Hanford added two victories with a time of 2:18.38 in the 200 IM, and 1:02.8
in the 100 back, and Jacob Wright scored a victory with a time of 24.54 in the 50 free.
Stephen Anthon became the fifth member of the STA team to qualify for the State
Championships as his 3rd place swim in the 200 IM came in at 2:39.64, besting the qualifying time of 2:41.97.
Elizabeth Crossie scored a third place finish in the 50 back with a time of 1:36.84, and Augustine Cayere made his STA debut, swimming strong in the 50 free to finish third with a time of 30.48.
The biggest time drop of the meet belonged to Collin Dillon as he dropped over
nine seconds in the 200 free, coming in at 2:57.81.

MANDEVILLE—Jacob Wright joined Lindsey Dettwiller and Matt Hanford as a multiple event qualifier for the
State Championship Meet to be held November 20 and 21 in Sulphur, LA. Wright qualified in the 100 free with a
time of 57.49, and the 200 IM with a time of 2:28.98. Hanford added two more qualifying times in the 100 Breast
with a time of 1:10.6 and the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.27. Shannon Garrety is the fourth member of the
team with State Swims in their future as she is currently qualified in the 100 fly.
Lindsey Dettwiller lowered two of her own school records dropping her 50 free record
from 28.19 to 27.96, and lowering her 100 back record from 1:12.60 to 1:08.85; she is qualified for
the State Meet in both these events.
Jacob Wright, Collin Dillon, Stephen Anthon, and Matt Hanford teamed to lower
the STA 200 free relay record from 1:47.8 to 1:44.59.

HAMMOND—The Falcon swim team had a strong showing in the STA/PHS Invitational Meet this past
Tuesday, finishing third with 42 points. Ponchatoula finished with 54, Northlake Christian with 48,
Hannan with 38, and Covington with 5.
In the 200 Medley Relayy, Elizabeth Crossie, Kelsey Oliva, Lindsey Dettwiller,
and Shannon Garrety teamed to finish 4th just outside of the points. Matt Hanford, Stephen Anthon, Jacob Wright,
and Collin Dillon started the scoring for the Falcons, coming in second in the Boys 200 Medley Relay with
a new school record of 2:00.56.
Lindsey Dettwiller finished first lowering her school record in the 200 free from 2:20.5 to 2:16.94.
Brandt Tycer and Stephen Anthon scored points coming in second and third respectively in the Boys 200 free.
Shannon Garrety finished 2nd in the 200 IM, Kelsey Oliva finished 2nd in the 50 free, and Jacob Wright finished 2nd in the 50 free.
Lindsey Dettwiller finished first in the 100 fly, Stephen Anthon finished third in the
100 fly, Shannon Garrety finished second in the 100 free, Matt Hanford finished second in the 100 free,
and Jacob Wright finished second in the 500 free.
Kelsey Oliva, Tori Durand, Shannon Garrety, and Lindsey Dettwiller teamed
again to lower their school record in the 200 free relay from 2:07.17 to 2:05.61 as they finished a close second.
The boys followed that up finishing second in the 200 free relay.
Matt Hanford then came in first in the 100 back, setting a new school record
at 1:01.18, besting Trey Trahan’s 2011 record of 1:01.47, while Taylor Parent, Mary Abby Richardon,
Elizabeth Crossie, and Tori Durand teamed to finish 3rd in the 400 free Relay.

HAMMOND—The STA Falcon swim team set four new team records at the September 19 Oak Knoll Meet.
Kelsey Oliva, Tori Durand, Shannon Garrety and Lindsey Dettwiller lowered the 200 free relay record from
2:08.97 to 2:07.17. Elizabeth Crossie, Kelsey Oliva, Lindsey Dettwiller and Shannon Garrety teamed to
lower the 200 Medley Relay from 2:28.23 to 2:28.05.
On the boys side Brandt Tycer, Jacob Wright, Matt Hanford, and Stephen Anthon
lowered the boys 200 free relay record from 1:49.83 to 1:47.80. In the 200 Medley Relay Stephen Anthon,
Brandt Tycer, Jacob Wright, and Collin Dillon teamed to post a 2:07.31, lowering the record from 2:07.87.
In individual swims, Lindsey Dettwiller placed first in her two swims, and lowered
her school records, coming in at 1:00.08 in the 100 free, and 1:12.60 in the 100 back; both times are State
Qualifying times. Matt Hanford also posted two more State Qualifying times as he won the 50 free
in :24.48 and the 500 free in 5:44.22. Jacob Wright placed first in the 200 free at 2:22.94,
Shannon Garrety placed first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:31.53, and Kelsey Oliva placed
first in the 100 fly with a time of 1:26.64.
The Falcons will swim again on Tuesday September 24th at 4:30pm as they welcome
Ponchatoula, Hammond, Covington, and district rivals Hannan and Northlake Christian to Oak Knoll.

More State Qualifying Times achieved.
HAMMOND—Shannon Garrety became the 4th member of the Saint Thomas Aquinas team to achieve State Championship
qualifying times, joining Lindsey Dettwiller, Matt Hanford, and Jacob Wright. Her time of 1:14.45 in the 100
fly qualified her to race in Sulfur, and edged Lindsey Dettwiller’s previous school record of 1:14.83.
Shannon also qualified in the 100 breast, besting Kelsey Oliva’s previous school record of 1:31.60,
coming in at 1:30.84.
Lindsey Dettwiller, in turn, bested Shannon Garrety’s previous school record of 7:10.74
in the 500 free, coming in at 6:22.29. She also lowered her own record in the 50 free, coming in at 28.19.
Both times are State qualifying times, raising her qualifying count to four. Dettwiller will be limited to two events
at the State Championships.
Matt Hanford also added two more state qualifying times to raise his total to four
as he swam 2:07.51 in the 200 free, and 58.67 in the 100 fly.
Brandt Tycer also had a strong meeting, winning the boys 50 free, and 100 back.
Jacob Wright repeated a State Qualifying time in his 100 breast stroke.

HAMMOND—The Falcon Swim Team got off to a strong start with three swimmers qualifying for the State Championships
to be held in Sulphur, LA in November as Saint Thomas Aquinas finished second in points in the four team meet that
included Ponchatoula High, Hammond High Magnet, and Covington High. Sophomore Lindsey Dettwiller qualified in the 200 free,
coming in at 2:20.50, and in the 100 fly, coming in at 1:14.83; both times are school records.
Senior Jacob Wright qualified in the 200 IM, coming in at 2:32.91, and in the 100 Breast, coming in at 1:15.11.
Junior Matt Hanford qualified in the 200 IM, coming in at 2:21.11, and in the 100 Breast, coming in at 1:13.96.
The achieving of multiple State Times guarantees each of these swimmers entry in the maximum two individual
events at the State Championship meet, and guarantees STA representation in both the male and female relays.
